Barrett urges people to check bank records
Castlebar Labour Party town councillor Harry Barrett has urged people to check their bank records in the wake of The Central Bank report, issued recently, that named six banks that it is investigating for wrongly selling insurance products to thousands of customers. The banks have been ordered to carry out independent reviews of the sales of the payment protection insurance to find out the scale of the problem, and pay restitution. Payment protection insurance or PPI repays a loan or credit card if a person becomes sick or unemployed. Since August 2007, more than 300,000 PPI policies were sold in Ireland.
Keelogues woman to run New York marathon for Mayo Rape Crisis Centre
Trish Reddington from Keelogues, Castlebar, will be running in the New York City Marathon, the biggest race in the world, on November 4 to raise funds for Mayo Rape Crisis Centre. Trish, a former Mayo county footballer took up running while living in New York City. A member of New York Road Runners Club until she moved home in October 2011, Trish only began running in 2008. She has since completed six half marathons and two Olympic size New York City triathlons in 2009 and 2010, where she helped raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of New York City.

Mayo GAA fans line out for Ulster Bank event
The Ulster Bank GAA Force Roadshow travelled to Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club on Wednesday night, where some 250 Mayo GAA fans took part in the evening’s activities. The event featured a panel discussion and questions and answers session with RTÉ pundit and Kerry GAA legend Pat Spillane, former Mayo players Liam McHale and Martin Carney, and current Galway stars Joe Bergin and Finian Hanley. The event was MC’d by Newstalk sports commentator David McIntyre.
